Can Intel outdo ARM in tablet domain?

Intel to catch up with its arch rival ARM, the dominant player in tablet world, has accelerated the production of its tablet chips. Trusted aides stated that Intel has speed up the process of its Atom chips that will grace tablets by 2013.

ARM which successfully rules the tablet as well as the smartphone market is currently available in the Apple’s iPad 2 and HP’s Touchpad. Even RIM and Motorola too are assimilating ARM processors in tablets. Intel arrived late in the tablet industry and released its first true Atom tablet chip, code-named Oak Trail. The coming month will see the sale of 35 Oak Trail devices. The chip giant also announced Oak Trail successor called Cloverview to take on ARM based tablets.

To close the gap of performance and efficiency with ARM, Intel is prepping up a new tablet and netbook chips that will be carved smartly with its advanced 22nm process.

Intel needs to quickly establish its footprints in the tablet arena, as netbooks, PCs and laptops are losing their share to this device, which could halt the Intel’s growth.
